Football, or soccer as it is sometimes known, is an immensely popular sport and it is often referred to as the king of all sports. The sport has sometimes had a bad reputation in the past for violence among the fans, especially in the UK and this tarnished the sport for a while. Football today has a much better image and generates huge amounts of money.

Football players have to be skilled in the art and very fit, the competition is intense and only the best will be considered. The sport has provision for potential players who may come from a disadvantaged area or background. This allows talented players to have the possibility of being a soccer star.

Up to 100,000 fans can gather in gigantic arenas to watch the sport and the proceeds of one match can be up to 2 million pounds. There are world cup draws, Olympics matches, the international Jules Rimet Trophy and many, many others. In the Jules Rimit competition countries from all over the world play each other over a 4 week period every 4 years. 

The Football industry is huge and television channels often compete for the media rights while players and managers command massive salaries. Watching Football is more popular than playing it among the younger generations. There are soccer academies for those that want to participate in this sport and get some specialist training. It is fantastic exercise in this digital era and children should be encouraged to play. There are several playing positions to choose from, so something for everyone. Governments often fund these schools as they are aware of the huge amounts of tourist spectators it can bring into the country.
